Every demo video goes stale the day a button is renamed, a step is added or a screen is redesigned. With a recorded screencast that means booking the time to record again, and the old video stays up until someone does. With Screen Browser the video is a guide, so a change in the app is a change to a line.
What a guide holds
Open the guide and click Open editor. Every line is one of three things: a step the recorder performs in your app ("Click New campaign"), a caption the narrator reads and the viewer sees, or an effect such as a highlight, a zoom, a tooltip or a chapter card. The narration, the pacing and the effects all live here, in plain language, next to the steps they belong to.
That is why a rerun reproduces the video rather than approximating it. The same voice reads the same captions over the same steps, in the same order, with the same effects at the same moments. Only what you changed is different.
Edit the line
Click the line that changed, type the new wording and press Enter. The editor saves a new version at once; the older ones stay in the version history, so you can compare two versions or go back. Nothing else moves.
The change in the video is a caption, because that is the smallest honest example. The changes that actually come with a release are just as small:
- A button was renamed. Change the word in the step. The recorder looks for the words the page shows, so "Click New campaign" becomes "Click Create campaign" and that is all.
- A field moved to another screen. Move the line, or add a "Click" step before it.
- A step was added to the flow. Add a line where it belongs. The captions around it stay as they were.
- A screen was redesigned. Often nothing changes: the recorder matches by what the page calls things, not by where they sit.
Generate again
Click Generate. The same guide with the new line records again, in the same voice, with the same effects. A few minutes later the new take is in your library next to the old one, with its own GIF, subtitles, chapters and share link. Publish it, and the old one is one click away if you ever need it.
A rerun costs the same as the first run, counted in minutes of finished video, and a run that fails costs nothing. So change the guide as often as the app changes.
